DERGVIEW striker Ryan Campbell has been named Championship Player of the Month for September by the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association.
The former Ballinamallard United and Institute player has been in fine form for the Castlederg side in recent weeks. In September, Richard Clarke's men claimed wins over Larne (2-0), Armagh City (3-1) and Annagh United (9-0). They also drew 1-1 with fellow promotion hopefuls Institute. Campbell scored five goals in the month, notching doubles against both Larne and Annagh United.
The striker said; "It's a great honour for me to win this award and I would like to thank the Football Writers' for selecting me, however, I think the result reflects how well we have us done as a team, so I have to pay tribute to my teammates. We had a disappointing result against Ballyclare last weekend, but I'm confident we can continue to challenge in the top half of this division. Our aim at this stage is to be in the top six, come the split, and then take things from there.
"Richard Clarke is a fantastic manager. He is somebody you can have a bit of banter with but at half-time he isn't scared to tell you exactly what he thinks."
Award presented by NIFWA Chairman Stephen Watson.
