STRIKER Richard Lecky made his long-awaited return by starting for the Dergview second string on Saturday and teenager James Harpur netted his first senior goal but it was Philip Wallace who stole the show with a sparkling hat-trick.
Not only did Wallace help himself to an impressive three-hit but he also had a big hand in the other two goals scored by veteran Gareth Sproule and 16-year-old Harpur.
Six minutes in Wallace combined with Graham Lecky for Sproule to open the scoring and barely two minutes later Wallace raced onto a John Edgar pass to double the advantage.
Visiting goalkeeper Stephen Gunn then thwarted Edgar on at least two occasions before the visitors gained something of a foothold in the game with goalkeeper Alan Buchanan parrying an Adam Chartres shot with Simon McCusker blazing the rebound over.
The visitors continued to press for a route back into the game with Chartres flashing another effort wide after linking up with Tommy McMahon before Elliott Morrison drew a spectacular save from Buchanan with a volley from 18 yards.
Thomas McDonald blasted another shot just over from the edge of the area and Chartres twisted past his marker on the hour mark, but his shot glanced off the far post and the scoreline somehow stayed at 2-0.
After withstanding that period of pressure, Dergview showed the Bridge how it’s done with Sproule releasing Wallace who displayed great pace and composure to run in and make it 3-0.
That goal knocked the stuffing out of Stuart Murphy’s team and Gunn denied Edgar and Richard Lecky superbly as Dergview seized the initiative.
Wallace completed his hat-trick with another trademark finish from the edge of the box before playing a hand in the home side’s fifth.
His shot proved too hot to handle for Gunn and teenage fullback Harpur demonstrated composure way beyond his years be striking home from 18 yards.
