CLARKE THREATENS TO WIELD AXE

DERGVIEW boss Richard Clarke has threatened to wield the axe if his players don’t start carrying out his instructions.

Last weekend the Castlederg outfit slumped to a third league defeat at home to HW Welders.

Individual errors proved costly for the Derg men who, as a result of the disapponting 3-0 reverse, slip to sixth in the rankings.

It’s far cry from a month or so ago when Clarke’s charges were sitting proudly top of the pile. Later today (Saturday) Dergview bid to get back on track with a difficult trip to Loughgall United.

The players will make the journey to Lakeview Park well warned to get their act together. “When you suffer a defeat, the thing you’re are always looking from your players is a response,” said the ex-Ports player.

“It’s the last chance saloon for a few boys. They are not carrying out the gameplan we have set out for them. ‘If they are going to keep ignoring it the only way they are going is out of the team. “It’s about keeping it simple and keeping possession but it’s not happening.

“The disappointing thing for us is that we are keeping it simple for the players but they are going out onto the pitch and complicating it. “We will only put up with it so long. The players either carry out the orders or they’ll not be in the team. That’s the message loud and clear.

“The players we have should be a match for any team, so we just have to start showing it.” For the visit to Lakeview Park, Clarke will welcome the back the suspended pair of Gareth Porter and Aaron Arkinson, as well as Richard Lynch, Ivan Sproule and goalkeeper Keelan Mulcahy, all of which missed the Welders game.

That will leave Clarke, who believes his team isn’t yet good enough to challenge for the title, with a stronger hand for what he expects will be another tough assignment. “It’s going to be tough game against Loughgall, they are going through a sticky patch as well and obviously they’ll be targeting us for three points.”
