RESERVES SALVAGE DRAW WITH LEAGUE LEADERS

Dergview Reserves... 1

Mountjoy United........ 1

Despite playing the final quarter with 10 men the reserve team battled back to secure a deserved 1-1 draw against promotion favourites Mountjoy United on Saturday. The home side had Dylan Rankin harshly sent off for a challenge on visiting attacker Jonny Cresswell, however, Martin Buchanan's charges redoubled their efforts and secured a share of the spoils thanks to an equaliser from Graham Lecky.

Gary McHugh scampered clear on the right and he whipped over an inviting delivery which Lecky swept home at the back post.

Martin Buchanan thought his team were good value for a point. “All things considered I would think a draw was a fair result,” he said. “There were a number of excellent performances right throughout the team but for me Dean Forsythe was man of the match, he was exceptional at the back and made a number of crucial challenges. “All told it wasn't a bad day at the office.”

After Cresswell volleyed over from a Lee Frazer cross, it was former Darragh Park favourite John Edgar who opened Mountjoy's account by tapping home a Michael Reid cross from the left. Both sides continued to carve out opportunities with David Baxter volleying over for the visitors with Edgar and Reid going close early in the second period.

And before Dergview launched their comeback Cresswell was brilliantly denied by goalkeeper Alan Buchanan three yards out. Moments later came the sending off before Lecky was on hand to leave it all to play for with over 10 minutes to go. If anything Mountjoy looked the more likely as Buchanan pulled off an excellent stop to thwart Reid.
